What is the Globe Future Makers Program?

Future Makers is the social innovation program of the Singtel Group of Companies within the Asia Pacific region. Launched in 2016 in Singapore and Australia, this program seeks to recognize the most innovative technology-enabled solutions focused on solving social issues in Singapore, Australia, and the Philippines.

Globe Future Makers program is open to Philippine-based initiatives who are committed to achieving widescale positive societal impact and believe in the power of technology to change the world.

Who is Ashoka?

Ashoka is the pioneer in establishing the field of social entrepreneurship. With over 3,000 fellows from 89 countries, it is the largest professional network of social innovators in the world. Ashoka is helping accelerate social change through its global community of changemakers from across causes, disciplines, sectors, and borders.

What is the duration of the program and what can winners expect?

The Globe Future Makers program will last for 4 months with follow-up support. Future Makers will attend social impact workshops, coaching sessions and regular business mentoring by seasoned entrepreneurs, Globe Telecom employees, Singtel Group employees and industry experts. Most importantly, there are ample opportunities for community engagement and access to networking events.

Who can apply for the Globe Future Makers program?

We welcome everyone whether social enterprises or not-for-profits, with relevant technological or innovative solutions that can solve existing and emerging social sector challenges in the Philippines and the region.

In particular, we are looking for products and services that are addressing the following critical issues that greatly affect poverty in the Philippines:

  • Climate Change & Displacement
  • Health & Wellbeing
  • Peace & Security
  • Learning & Education

What are the guidelines for eligibility?
  • Start-ups, social enterprises, for-profit and nonprofit entities are welcome to apply.
  • The program is open to individuals and groups who are based in the Philippines.
  • Group entrants are requested to choose one team lead to be the main applicant and representative.
  • The entries should clearly articulate how technology is being used to optimize the social impact of the organization.
  • The innovation must address at least one of the issues affecting Poverty: Climate Change and Displacement, Health and Wellbeing, Learning and Education, and/or Peace and Security.
  • Innovation must be beyond the ideation stage with at least a working prototype having been deployed and the team having worked on the initiative for at least six (6) months.
  • All entries must be submitted in English.
Do I need to be based in the Philippines to apply?

Yes. We are focused on applicants who want to have significant social impact in the Philippines. The final selection process will require the top 10 to participate in in-person interviews. If selected as a Future Maker, participants will need to attend activities and events in Manila.

What is the application process like? How does the nomination system work?

Interested parties have the option to either submit an application for their start-up, or nominate another start-up as a potential applicant for the Globe Future Makers program.

If you choose to nominate another individual or group, you'll be asked to submit their contact information and a brief explanation of why you feel they are a fit for the Globe Future Makers program. Once we receive your nomination, we'll send your nominee an email inviting them to submit a full application online. Direct applications are also welcome. You do not need to be nominated by another party in order to join.

All eligible applicants are invited to submit their full application form online through the Globe Future Makers website.

Shortlisted applicants will then participate in a series of interviews and presentations to a judging panel led by Globe, Ashoka, and cross-sector partners.

How can I apply for the Globe Future Makers program?

Easy! Simply follow the steps below:

Applications will be reviewed from May to June 2017. Top 20 finalists will receive notifications via email. Further interviews and evaluations will lead to the selection of the final Top 5 Future Makers in July.

What information is required in the application?

Kindly refer to the application form. Do not disclose any proprietary or confidential information in your application.

How will I know if my application has been received?

You'll receive a confirmation email upon submission.

What is the closing date to submit a nomination or an application?

The deadline for nominations is on May 1, 2017, while the deadline to submit final online applications is on May 21, 2017. Finalists will be notified via email.

I left out some information in my first application. Can I resubmit my application?

All submissions made are considered final. We encourage all applicants to check that all of the required information in the application form has been included before submission.

Is the Globe Future Makers program for individuals or groups?

The program is open to both individuals and groups who are based in the Philippines. However, group entrants are requested to choose one team lead to be the main applicant.

Do I need to give up equity or future revenue in exchange for the support provided?

No, Globe does not take any equity or royalty for the support provided. The aim of Globe Future Makers is to foster social impact through technology, innovation and entrepreneurship and build the ecosystem for social innovation.

How will the Globe Future Makers program treat intellectual property rights of the applicants and winners?

Globe Telecom and Ashoka will not claim ownership over the intellectual property rights of the social innovations submitted to the program. Intellectual property rights shall remain with the applicant at all times. However, we request that you do not include confidential or proprietary information in your application that you may not want to share publicly.
